Increase in fines and prosecutions for food safety and hygiene

Fines for food safety and hygiene offences and prosecution of directors and senior managers have increased following the introduction of new sentencing guideline in England and Wales.

NFU Mutual, which specialises in insuring businesses in the food service sector, is warning businesses owners across the UK of the dangers of poor food hygiene and safety practices, following the findings in an impact assessment published by the Sentencing Council during April 2019.

Events caterer, KUDOS, is now recycling all its coffee grounds across its cafes throughout the country.

Used coffee grounds up and down the country are now being stored by baristas in fully recyclable bags to be used as part of the Good Life, which is KUDOS’s wider sustainable initiatives programme.

More catering jobs on offer, but candidates aren’t playing ball, report says

Despite the amount of catering jobs on offer jumping up by 2% in Q1 2019, workers don’t appear to be feeling as confident, with the amount of applications for catering roles falling by 14.1%, according to the latest job market report from independent job board, CV-Library.

The report, which compared job market data in January, February and March 2019 and compared this with the same period last year, also found that average pay for new catering jobs fell by a marginal 0.8%, from £25,822 in Q1 2018, to £25,611.33 in 2019. This drop equates to £210.67.

Hospitality sector sees increase in advertised jobs and salaries, data reveals

The number of jobs advertised in the hospitality industry increased by 15% in 2018, the fastest rate of increase across sectors, ahead of both technology and HR (both 10%), according to data from the 2019 Reed Hospitality & Leisure Salary Guides.
