PHE Change4Life sugar smart

Following the Public Health England (PHE) revelation earlier in January that, by the age of ten, many children have exceeded the maximum recommended sugar limit for someone eight years older, Change4Life is offering dedicated English and Maths resources to support teachers in promoting healthier habits.

While children’s sugar intakes have declined slightly in recent years, they are still consuming around eight extra sugar cubes each day, equivalent to around 2,800 excess sugar cubes per year.

The School Chef of the Year sponsored by McDougalls West Midlands winner was revealed as Tanya Malone, employed by Educaterers.

Based at Rugby Free Secondary School in Warwickshire, she will now go on to compete against nine other regional champions in the National Final on 7 March in Stratford Upon Avon.

LACA has ‘welcomed’ the launch of Public Health England’s Change4Life campaign, aimed at reducing the sugar intake in children and childhood obesity.

Meat free specialist, Quorn, is investing £12 million this year it announced yesterday (7 January), to “drive growth and penetration of the meat-free category”.
